Major Icepack upgrades include a joint thickness and floe size distribution with adaptive timestepping, water isotope tracers, and shortwave enhancements within and below the ice. In addition, CICE now offers an implicit solver for viscous-plastic dynamics and improved testing capabilities. This presentation places these developments and future upgrades in the context of planned E3SM enhancements and scientific studies. : This presentation was given for the DOE ESMD/E3SM PI meeting in late October, 2020.
