Brullé, and this crab was identified as Grapsus strigosus by Brullé (1839: 15), before it was recognised as new by H. Milne Edwards, (1853: 133 [167]) and dedicated to Webb, then synonymised to Grapsus adscensionis (Osbeck, 1765). : Published as part of Ng, Ngan Kee, Rodríguez Moreno, Paula A., Naruse, Tohru, Guinot, Danièle & Mollaret, Noémy, 2019, Annotated type-catalogue of Brachyura (Crustacea, Decapoda) of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, Paris.
