The collection system occurs as follows: the ship's saltwater piping system collects seawater, when this water enters the balancer it generates turbulence. The turbulence generated causes the CO2 present in the water to come into balance with the air. The air that comes out of the balancer is pumped into the LI-850, by its internal pump, and thus, the equipment measures the concentration of CO2 present in the water.
