Description
Summary:This dataset contains soil microbial biomass and soil CO2 efflux (glacier respiration) measured in terrestrial ecosystems immediately adjacent (<0.10m) to the Greenland Ice Sheet near Thule, Greenland (76N, 68W) in July 1997, and in ecosystems adjacent (<0.10 m) to the Twin Glacier on Ellesmere Island near Alexandra Fiord, Nunavut, Canada (78N, 75W) in July 1999 and periodically throughout the summer in 2000. CO2 efflux and microbial biomass were measured in sites that had just become ice-free during the current year, and in sites that had been free of ice for 10, 20, 40, and ~5000 years at Alexandria Fiord and ice-free for ~40 and ~400 years at Thule, Greenland.
