PCA-based inversion of stellar fundamental parameters from high-resolution Echelle spectra

The general context of this study is the inversion of stellar fundamental parameters from high-resolution Echelle spectra. We aim at developing a fast and reliable tool for the post-processing of spectra produced, in particular, by the Espadons and Narval spectropolarimeters. Our inversion tool reli...

We aim at developing a fast and reliable tool for the post-processing of spectra produced, in particular, by the Espadons and Narval spectropolarimeters. Our inversion tool relies on principal component analysis. It allows reduction of dimensionality and the definition of a specific metric for the search of nearest neighbours between an observed spectrum and a set of synthetic spectra. Effective temperature, surface gravity, total metallicity and projected rotation velocity are derived. Our first tests, essentially done from the sole information coming from the spectral band that the RVS spectrometer will soon observe from the GAIA space observatory, and with spectra from mainly FGK-dwarfs are very promising. We also tested our method with a few targets beyond this domain of the H-R diagram. : 7 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables (technical report) Report narval narval DataCite Metadata Store (German National Library of Science and Technology)
