This book is the first known general text on permafrost from China describing both the scientific and engineering aspect. Section 1, Chapter 1, is on permafrost phenomena associated with freezing, such as pingos, icings and frost heave. Section 2 is on thawing phenomena, such as thaw flow, solifluction and thaw settlement. Section 3 contains information on commonly observed types of frost damage in buildings and engineering works, including "water entering heated buildings", damage to foundations and frost boils. Section 4 is on plugging of drainage pipes and water pipes. Chapter 2 is on the distribution and the formation of frozen ground. Chapter 3 is devoted to the effects of permafrost on buildings. Chapter 4 is on the prevention and solution of frost damage to buildings. : Le présent ouvrage est le premier ouvrage général publié en Chine sur le pergélisol et sur ses aspects scientifiques et techniques. La section 1 du chapitre premier, porte sur les phénomènes liés à l'engel, tels que les pingos, les glacages et les soulèvements dus au gel. La section 2 traite des phé nomenes de dégel, tels que le fluage dû au dégel, la solofluxion et le tassement dû au dégel. La section 3 contient des informations sur les dommages causés par le gel et couramment observés dans les constructions et les ouvrages, notamment "les constructions chauffées à circulation d'eau", sur les dommages causés aux fondations et sur les ostioles. La section 4 porte sur l'obturation des tuyaux de drainage et des canalisations d'eau. Le chapitre 2 traite de la répartition et de la formation du sol gelé.
