Les antécédents en matière d'ingénierie révèlent que la reconnaissance des sols est essentielle dans les régions où l'on trouve du pergélisol; cependant, aucune méthode uniforme de signalisation des conditions de pergélisol n'a été jusqu'ici utilisée, ni est même disponible à ce jour. On a préparé ce livret en espérant que le système descriptif qui y est décrit répondra à ce besoin.
