The Eurobarometer series is a unique cross-national and cross-temporal survey program conducted on behalf of the European Commission. These surveys regularly monitor public opinion in the European Union (EU) member countries and consist of standard modules and special topic modules. The standard modules address attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as respondent and household demographics. The special topic modules address such topics as agriculture, education, natural environment and resources, public health, public safety and crime, and science and technology. This round of Eurobarometer surveys covers the following special topics: (1) Attitudes towards the EU, (2) Europe 2020, (3) European economy, (4) European citizenship, and (5) Social reality in Europe. Respondents' opinions were collected regarding life satisfaction, the standard of living, self-esteem, employment, and safety. Respondents were also questioned about the economic crisis, economic expectations, public debt, and education. Additional questions were asked regarding the social welfare system, EU policies, national and European identity, participation in the EU, EU membership, and democracy. Demographic and other background information collected includes age, gender, nationality, marital status, occupation, age when stopped full-time education, household composition, ownership of a fixed or mobile telephone and other goods, difficulties in paying bills, level in society, and Internet use. In addition, country-specific data includes type and size of locality, region of residence, and language of interview (select countries). : ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection: Checked for undocumented or out-of-range codes.. : Datasets: DS1: Dataset : Eurobarometer Survey Series : computer-assisted personal interview (CAPI), face-to-face interview The original data collection was carried out by TNS Opinion and Social on request of the European commission between May 31 - June 10, 2014. In some areas, fieldwork dates may vary slightly from this timeframe.All question modules are in the standard Eurobarometer context and largely replicate questions asked in the context of Eurobarometer 80.1 [ZA5876](ICPSR 35204).At present the special topic "Party attachment" and "Last vote in national parliamentary elections" is under embargo. Variables for those questions under embargo are not included in this version of the collection. Please review the "ICPSR/GESIS Cooperative Agreement and Embargo Provisions" section in the ICPSR codebook. : Population of the respective nationalities of the European Union Member States, resident in each of the Member States and aged 15 years and over. The survey has also been conducted in the five candidate countries (Turkey, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Montenegro, and Serbia) and in the Turkish Cypriot Community. In these countries, the survey covers the national population of citizens and the population of citizens of all the European Union Member States that are residents in these countries and have a sufficient command of the national languages to answer the questionnaire. Smallest Geographic Unit: Country : The basic sample design applied in all states is a multi-stage, random (probability) one. In each country, a number of sampling points was drawn with the probability proportional to population size (for a total coverage of the country) and to population density. In order to do so, the sampling points were drawn systematically from each of the "administrative regional units", after stratification by individual unit and type of area. They thus represent the whole territory of the countries surveyed according to the EUROSTAT NUTS II (or equivalent) and according to the distribution of the resident population of the respective nationalities in terms of metropolitan, urban and rural areas. In each of the selected sampling points, a starting address was drawn, at random (following the "closest birthday rule"). All interviews were conducted face-to-face in the people's homes and in the appropriate national language. CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interview) was used in those countries where this technique was available.
