Simulations of wave propagation and attenuation in fields of colliding ice floes

This dataset contains results of numerical smulations of sea ice-wave interactions, corresponding to laboratory experiments conducted at the Large Ice Model Basin (LIMB) at the Hamburg Ship Model Basin (HSVA) as part of the LS-WICE ("Loads on Structure and Waves in Ice"; https://zenodo.org...

THe simulations were conducted with a coupled waves-ice model, based on a discrete-element sea ice model DESIgn (https://herman.ocean.ug.edu.pl/LIGGGHTSseaice.html) and a wave energy transport model. The sea ice module computes the motion and collisions of ice floes forced by waves, and the wave module computes changes of wave amplitude during wave propagation through the ice, with several energy dissipation mechanisms: floe collisions, ice-water drag, or overwash of the upper ice surface. The computations were carried out for several floe sizes (0.5, 1.5 and 3.0 m, as in the experiment), ice concentrations, incident wave amplitudes and periods, as well as three different dispersion relations: open water ('OW'), elastic plate ('EP') and mass loading ('ML'). All details of the experiments and model setup can be found in the two papers linked to this dataset. In the dataset, the modelling results are grouped according to individual tests, in files named: s3000_flX.X_ffdYYY_DD.tar.gz, where X.X – floe length in meters (0.5, 1.5 or 3.0), YYY – average floe-floe distance (5, 10, 20 or 50 mm), DD – dispersion relation used (EP, OW, or ML). Each test case contains file in.run, with a full information on the configuration of the model, and a folder ‘res’ with the results, all in text format.
