The sampled stormwater was then analyzed for a suite of chemistry parameters to give information about: the major anions, major cations, phosphorus (P) speciation (dissolved reactive P, total dissolved P, total P), dissolved organic and inorganic carbon, electrical conductivity, pH, nitrogen speciation (ammonium, nitrate, nitrite), total suspended solids, and road salt ions (sodium, chloride). This sampling was done in collaboration with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and the City of Richmond Hill as part of a Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Strategic Partnerships Grant. The other organizations that supported the collection of this data by supporting site set up and/or site access were: the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and the City of Richmond Hill. ... : At each of the 4 main sampling sites (Ajax West, Ajax East, Richmond Hill pond inlet, Richmond Hill pond outlet), ISCO auto samplers were programmed to collect stormwater samples during rain events. At the additional sampling sites (e.g., the water columns of the focus pond and a nearby pond, the 2 Rouge River sites), 1 L grab samples were collected. From the ISCO bottles, selected bottles representing the range of flow during the event were analyzed for a suite of chemical parameters. The samples were filtered for analysis of dissolved constituents as soon as possible after the samples were collected. All analytical chemistry equipment were carefully calibrated using multiple calibration standards and each set of data from each instrument were evaluated for QC/QA before being reported as a final result.
