The existing regulatory guidance documents of the Russian Federation do not consider the specifics of their hydrological conditions. In this scheme the presence of tidal currents determining the advection-diffusion transportation of pollutants is taken into account. Such flows have a significant short-term variability and current vector of flow is reversed 2 times a day. However, the existing regulatory guidance documents contain only methods of calculation of unidirectional steady sea currents. The recommendations for practical implementation of the scheme are given, taking into account peculiarities of geomorphological parameters and ice events in the coastal zone. Waste water discharge should be performed in deep water with presence of the maximum tidal currents and it should be protected from ice deformation. The problem of determining the background concentration of pollutant is considered and the algorithm of its solution is suggested. The application of this scheme in determining the sewage discharge standards in the coastal waters of the Arctic seas will significantly reduce the cost of wastewater disposal processes without negative impact on their ecosystems Dataset Arctic DataCite Metadata Store (German National Library of Science and Technology) Arctic |
