Description
Summary:He article suggests a new look at the concept of White Sea Petroglyphs . Since the discovery of Kanozero petroglyphs in 1997, this concept has ceased to be associated only with the Belomorsk petroglyphs discovered in 1924 at the mouth of the Vyg River(near Belomorsk, the Republic of Karelia). The article substantiates the belonging of both groups of petroglyphs, at a certain time interval, to one tradition of rock art and an ancient tradition of marine nature use. When forming a nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage List Petroglyphs of the Onega Lake and the White Sea, which is currentlybeing prepared, it is important considering the compliance of the White Sea style of the Kanozersky petroglyphs, to expect the possibility of their inclusion in this nomination, if all the necessary documents will be provided by Murmansk region authorities. The author of the article proposes the formulation of criteria for the nomination Petroglyphs of Onega Lake and the White Sea taking into account the inclusion of Kanozersk petroglyphs in it. : №7 (2018)
