The third is to present and evaluate a number of such paleointensity records for the last seventy thousand years of earth's history. ? This dissertation is a compendium of six manuscripts, which are in various stages of publication at this time. All of them deal with the general topic of paleomagnetic field intensity determinations from rapidly deposited sediments. In the broadest terms, the goal is to normalize the natural remanent magnetization (NRM) in the sediment by some measure of the varying amount of magnetic material variously available for alignment in the Earth's field.
