Genetic damage was assessed using a microscope. Heat shock proteins were detected with a Western blot. Hydrogen peroxide production, P450 activity, RNA:DNA and superoxide dismutase activity were measured using colormetric or fluorescent assays. Morphometrics were measured using calipers and a scale. Shell thickness was measured with a micrometer. Aliphatics and volatile organic compounds were detected with mass spectroscopy.
