Статья повествует о жизненном пути и научной деятельности известного отечественного учёного, признанного специалиста в области физиологии и энергетики дыхания растений Заслуженного деятеля науки РФ, д. б.н., проф. О.А. Семихатовой. О.А. родилась в Москве в 1921 г. В 1939 г., окончив с отличием школу, поступила на биофак МГУ. В эвакуации обучалась в Среднеазиатском университете (г. Ташкент), летнюю практику, а затем и зимовку провела на Памирской биологической станции. Вернувшись в Москву в 1943 г., продолжила учёбу в МГУ. Дипломную работу по изучению роста и биологии тунга на Северном Кавказе выполняла под руководством проф. Д.А. Сабинина. В 1945 г. поступила в аспирантуру на кафедру физиологии растений МГУ. Занималась разработкой проблемы связи дыхания и водоудерживающей способности клеток. После завершения аспирантуры в 1949 г. в статусе сотрудника БИНа вновь вернулась на Памир, где провела шесть сезонов, изучая дыхание высокогорных растений. Значительную часть своей научной жизни О.А. посвятила разработке одной из кардинальных проблем биологии растений — энергетики дыхания в норме и при стрессе. Создала группу «дыхательщиков» в Лаборатории фотосинтеза БИНа, возглавляемой О.В. Заленским, известным специалистом в области экологии фотосинтеза. Экспериментами на изолированных митохондриях, тканях и органах растений с применением самых современных в то время методов и подходов (дыхательные яды, меченые атомы и т. д.) О.А. доказала, что полного разобщения окисления и фосфорилирования не происходит даже в условиях стресса, а генерируемая в дыхании энергия расходуется на процессы репарации. Решению этих вопросов в значительной мере способствовали проведенные О.А. и её учениками исследования дыхания горных, пустынных и арктических растений в местах их обитания. О.А. прожила интересную, насыщенную жизнь, её научные работы получили мировое признание. : The article tells about the life and scientific activity of prof. O.A. Semikhatova, the famous Russian scientist, recognized expert in the field of plant respiration, Honored scientist of the Russian Federation. O.A. was born in Moscow in 1921. She entered the Biology Department of Moscow State University after graduating with honors from school in 1939. During the evacuation, she studied in the Central Asian University (Tashkent). The summer practice and then the winter she spent in the Pamir biological station. After returning to Moscow in 1943, O.A. continued her education in MSU. She carried out her diploma work devoted to the growth and biology of Tung plants in the North Caucasus under the supervision of prof. D.A. Sabinin. In 1945 O.A. enrolled in the postgraduate school at the Department of plant physiology, MSU. The thesis topic was devoted the relationship between respiration and water-holding capacity of plant cells. After completing her post-graduate studies in 1949, she returned to Pamir as an employee of the Botanical Institute and spent there six seasons studying the respiration of high-altitude plants. O.A. devoted a significant part of her scientific life to the development of the fundamental biological problem of energy efficiency of plant respiration in normal and stress conditions. Her experiments on isolated plant mitochondria, tissues and organs with the use of the most modern methods and approaches of that time (respiratory poisons, labeled atoms, etc.) proved that the complete separation of oxidation and phosphorylation does not occur even in the stress conditions, and the energy generated in respiration is spent on the reparation. The studies of respiration process in mountain, desert and arctic plants in their habitats conducted by O.A. and her students were of great importance for solving the issue of energy efficiency of plant respiration. O.A. lived an interesting and full life. Her scientific works have received the worldwide recognition.
