Summary:It is presented the results of the study of the main trends in the chemical composition in the river waters of the European part of the Arctic zone, Russian Federation (AZ RF). The tendency of temporal variability over a 30-year period was estimated based on the Kendall rank correlation coefficient. The increasing trends prevail among the statistically significant ones in the main ions. The growth dynamics of bi-carbonate, magnesium and calcium content is noted against the background of decreasing chlorides. Decreasing trends in ammonium nitrogen and organic matter and increasing trends in the content of nitrates and petroleum products prevail among the trends found in the variability of concentrations of biogenic and organic substances in the rivers of the European part of the Russian Arctic. Trends of growth in the concentrations of iron and manganese compounds are observed against the background of a decrease in copper over a long-term period for the studied river ecosystems of the Russian Arctic. The results of the trend analysis made it possible to assess the state of the ecosystems of the rivers of the European part of the AZ RF by the degree of variability of the composition of water. More than half of the studied river ecosystems are relatively prosperous and relate to the gradation of healthy ecosystems, and one third are in a transitional state. The obtained results are intermediate, and the identified trends require further reflection and clarification of the reasons for their arising.
