We are very grateful to Dr. Arne Foldvik and Dr. Svein Osterhus and their colleagues at the Geophysical Institute for their excellent organisation of the meeting. In total 23 participants from Germany, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom came together, despite the fact that only three months later the Fifth International Symposium on Antarctic Glaciology (VISAG) took place to which the FRISP community was also contributing. This report combines 10 written summaries of in total 15 talks, which were presented at the workshop. The discussion about future plans will be included in a FRISP newsletter. The papers collected in this volume present a good overview of the latest state of the FRISP and the co-operation of the participating groups. The collaborative mapping of the Filchner-Ronne-Schelfeis has been continued und is now close to publication. Modelling of the dynamics of FRIS has been coming into a new stage when the results of a decade of field measurements can be implemented. The ice shelf-ocean interaction is a matter of both, field measurements and modelling on FRIS and some other ice shelves as weIl as grounding line problems. ERS-l data are used for the determination of special surface features and ice velocities. Also included in the report are accumulation studies over large distances by means of air-borne radar measurements in Dronning Maud Land, as a contribution to the ITASE programme. Within the GLOCHANT activities of SCAR, emphasis will be put on two planning groups: paleoenvironments and mass balance. To both subjects FRISP will contribute with the future plans discussed at Bergen. There are plans for drilling on Berkner Island and the grounding line area of FRIS will come more in the focus of the oncoming projects. The 10th FRISP Workshop will be hosted by the Institut für Angewandte Geodäsie at Leipzig, Germany, early in June 1995. It is gratefully acknowledged that Alfred-Wegener-Institute once more covers the expenses for printing this report.
