This time the meeting was held in the United Kingdom at Madingley Hall, Cambridge, on 10th -11th June 1994. We are very grateful to Dr. C M S Doake and his colleagues at the British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, for their excellent organisation of the meeting. It was the second time that this beautiful castle hosted a FRISP workshop. In total 31 participants came together, coming from Germany, Norway, United Kingdom, and USA. The first day was the time for presenting talks on recent work, on the second day national field plans of the future were discussed. The ocean-ice shelf interaction and the processes at the grounding line are still the main topics for future research. The demand for deep hot water drillings is obvious. Only by measurements in the water column under the ice shelf one can proof the theories about the ocean circulation und the forming of a marine ice under the ice shelf. There are plans that during the 1996/97 season a "Nordic", a British and a German research vessel are operating in the Southern Weddell Sea area combined with activities on the ice shelf. These could be a unique chance for coordinated, simultaneous measurements in front and under the Filchner-Ronne- Schelfeis. The climatic aspect of the FRISP will be focussed during the 1994/95 field season, when ice core drilling is planned. on Berkner Island. The United Kingdom and Germany will co-operate in this drilling programme. There is an offer also from the Netherlands to contribute with an automatic weather station on Thyssenhöhe. The thematic mapping for the FRIS region goes on quite weIl and we may expect the sea bed and ice thickness maps to be published before the next FRISP workshop whieh will be hosted by Norway. Prof. Olav Orheim, Norway, was elected to be the new co-ordinator of the Filchner-Ronne Ice shelf Programme. The FRISP community thanks Dr. C M S Doake, UK, for the excellent work he did during the last years. It is gratefully acknowledged that Alfred-Wegener-Institute once more covered the expenses for printing this report.
