The 6th International Workshop of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf Pogramme was held at Fjaerland, Norway on 10th - 11th June 1991. This Report No. 5 contains summaries of recent work presented at the meeting as well as brief summaries of some of the discussion topics. We are very grateful to Professor Olav Orheim for arranging the meeting in such spectacular surroundings; although the proximity of the newly opened Norsk Bremuseum (Norwegian Glacier Centre) and the largest glacier in Europe contributed to the feeling of being in an appropriate setting for a glaciological conference, the steep climb up to Jostedalsbreen was in complete contrast to the unrelieved flatness of an Antarctic ice shelf! The Alfred-Wegener-Institute have again kindly agreed to edit and publish these proceedings; we are very grateful to them for providing continuity in the Report series.
