Summary: | The holothurian Lissothuria braziliensis is herein reported for the first time from the intertidal rocky shore of Gran Canaria Island (Canary Islands). This constitutes the first record of the genus Lissothuria in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. We present a detailed diagnosis and illustrations of the species and its ossicles, together with brief notes about its ecology at the new locality and an updated key of the genus. Furthermore, we discuss about the occurrence of L. braziliensis in the Canary Islands and consider that the species should be threated as cryptogenic. |
