Description
Summary:On 21 August 2015, four sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus Linnaeus, 1758) were seen at a distance of one nautical mile from the port of "El Ketf" (Gulf of Gabes). This is the first record of the species in the southern Tunisian Sea that extends previous knowledge on the sperm whale in the Mediterranean, raises queries about the use of southern Mediterranean waters by this species, and reports a defensive behaviour of this species in this region.
