Description
Summary:Contains replication data for a number of studies using the Fennoscandian lake register, which contains lake polygons and associated metadata across the borders of Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The source of the data is Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish official lake registers (NVE, SYKE, SMHI) combined with lake polygon data from the respective countries mapping authorities. The original data have been modified (including manually and automatically curating geometries) and merged to float seamlessly across borders. In addition, names of lakes, municipalities, country code has been added to the data. Geodata have was downloaded from the following sources in 2016: - https://www.lantmateriet.se/en/maps-and-geographic-information/open-geodata/ (Lantmäteriet open geodata, CC0) - https://www.maanmittauslaitos.fi/en/maps-and-spatial-data/expert-users/topographic-data-and-how-acquire-it (National Land Survey of Finland Topographic Database, CC-BY) - https://kartkatalog.geonorge.no/metadata/kartverket/n50-kartdata/ea192681-d039-42ec-b1bc-f3ce04c189ac (Norwegian Mapping Authority, CC-BY) The datasets have been used by several RCN and EU funded projects (INVAFISH, ODYSSUS, ECCO, BIWA). The file "lake_identifier_registry.csv" (UTF-8) provides an overview of various lakeIDs used in these projects along with official identifiers from Norwegian, Finnish and Swedish governmental organizations (NVE [no_vatn_lnr], SYKE [fi_nro] and SMHI [se_sjoid], respectively). Please note that there is no consensus about what constitutes a waterbody and there is in some instances not a 1:1 relationship between the different lake identifiers (i.e. on identifier may refer to several others) Lake geometries are stored in both shapefile format (contained in individual .zip files) and as R SF objects (stored in .RDS format), both for countries individually and the whole dataset combined. All in UTM 33N (EPSG:32633). The dataset is provided for the purpose of reproducibility and no
