The mooring array were deployed by Institute of Marine Research to monitor the inflow of Atlantic Water to the Barents Sea. The number of moorings deployed and functioning varied over the period, but the general setup was five moorings deployed between 71o30’N and 73o30’N, and along ~20oE, with a mutual distance of about 55 km (BSO1 at 71o30N, BSO2 at 72o00N, BSO3 at 72 o 30’N, BSO4 at 73oN and BSO5 at 73o30’N, see e.g.Ingvaldsen et al., 2004). From August 1999 to March 2002 two additional moorings were included in the mooring array to increase the horizontal resolution to about 25 km (BSO2B at 72o15N and BSO3B at 72o45N). The instrumentation on the moorings was mostly Aanderaa RCM7 and RCM9, and in the later years also Aanderaa Sea Guards. Data were recorded every 20 min. The number of instruments attached to each mooring, varied over the period. From 2005, BSO1 were equipped with a bottom mounted RDI workhorse 75 kHz when deployed. The data files contain raw data without any removal of spikes or filtering. Some files also contain salinity measurements, but no calibration has been conducted and no attempt has been made to correct the trend apparent in some of the salinity measurements. Ingvaldsen, R.
