Each JSON document is a 1:1 representation of the original message from the tracking platform and carries all the available original data. For details about the data format, see [Tracking-API-JSON](https://github.com/npolar/api.npolar.no/wiki/Tracking-API-JSON). Data management operations Unaltered source data are continuously harvested from the tracking platform vendor and stored on disk. Source files are then analysed and validated and the resulting metadata is published in the Source API. Valid source files are translated into JSON and published in the Tracking API #### Source API Example: * [CSV of all Argos sources from 1991](http://api.npolar.no/source/?q=&filter-collection=tracking&filter-start=1991-01-01..1992-01-01&filter-technology=argos&format=csv&fields=sha1:id,size,total,location,start,stop,north,east,south,west&sort=start&format=csv) History The Norwegian Polar Institute deployed it's first Argos buoy in 1979. The earliest Argos file in today's disk archive stems from 1989, while the oldest data in the Tracking API is from 1991. Copies of older data may be kept on old tape backup systems. This dataset has a considerable size, currently (February 2014) it consists of about 5 million individual tracking messages. * Download instructions * Original data * Restrictions Dataset Arctic Fox Arctic Bouvetøya håkjerring ivory gull Klappmyss Norwegian Polar Institute polar bear Ringsel rock ptarmigan steinkobbe Svalbard svalbard reindeer Svalbard Rock Ptarmigan walrus* DataCite Metadata Store (German National Library of Science and Technology) Arctic Bouvet ENVELOPE(3.358,3.358,-54.422,-54.422) Bouvetøya ENVELOPE(3.358,3.358,-54.422,-54.422) Svalbard |
