Ana Sotomayor García.-- 27 pages, 9 figures, 1 table ... : [EN] This study is part of the PI-ICE cruise, which was carried out along the Antarctic Peninsula in the austral summer 2019. Its purpose was to describe the regional microbial community and relate it to aerosol production for cloud formation. This was divided into two phases: a transect aboard the oceanographic research vessel BIO-Hesperides sampling surface water (SW) and microlayer (SML); and the second one, an experimental approach, at the Antarctic base Juan Carlos I (BAE). From sea ice, we checked how the microorganisms living in there react once they are released in the water column and are subject to stirring processes, to relate them to the production of aerosols. For this, we described the microbial community determining the abundance, biomass and composition of phototrophic (PNF) and heterotrophic (HNF) nanoflagellates. Indeed, the concentration of chlorophyll a, abundances of bacteria and viruses was evaluated, and temperature and salinity data were included. The results showed that the ...
