Surface meltwater production timeseries for Sermeq Avannarleq, western Greenland Ice Sheet from 2017-2018.

We calculate surface meltwater production (hourly melt rates) for three on-ice weather stations located in the ablation area of Sermeq Avannarleq, an outlet glacier of the western Greenland Ice Sheet. We use data from two automatic weather stations (AWS) installed during the MoVE project (Moulin and...

We use data from two automatic weather stations (AWS) installed during the MoVE project (Moulin and Velocity Experiment), as well as data from the Greenland Climate Network (GC-NET) weather station JAR1, to calculate melt rates at each location. Our lowest elevation weather station named LOWC was installed at "Low Camp", a field site (69.4726 N, 49.8267 W) at an elevation of ~770 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.), The GC-NET weather station JAR1 was located approximately five kilometers upglacier at an elevation of ~930 m.a.s.l.. Our highest elevation weather station named HIGH was installed at "High Camp", a field site (69.5419N, 49.7088W) at an elevation of ~960 m.a.s.l. We calculate melt rate using the enhanced temperature index model (Pellicciotti et al., 2015) which requires hourly measurements of air temperature, incoming solar radiation, and daily ice-surface albedo values. We fill data gaps in each timeseries using measurements from active weather stations to produce timeseries spanning the 2017 and 2018 melt seasons. The only data gap during the 2017 or 2018 melt seasons spans 24 June 2018 when station JAR1 went offline, and ends 8 July 2018 when the LOWC weather station was fixed upon arrival in the field.
