Here, we used long-term monitoring data from Arctic lakes to investigate a) the relative effects of inter-annual variability in ice-out timing and weather conditions (air temperature, wind speed) on lake thermal structure and b) how ice-out driven variability in thermal structure affects summer dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations. The aim was to refine our understanding of the mechanisms by which ice phenology affects lake ecosystems and disentangle different seasonal signals reflected in interannual variability of lake responses.
