The protocol, known as the Northeast Regional Stock Assessment Workshop (SAW), includes two levels of assessment peer review and presentations to the region's fishery management bodies. The first level of peer review is provided by SAW working groups that develop stock assessments and prepare working papers characterizing stock status. A second panel of stock assessment experts then reviews the working papers and accepts or rejects the tabled assessments. Finally, assessment summaries are delivered to the region's fishery management entities. The panel prepares two reports: a detailed 'Consensus Summary of Assessments' and a management summary 'Advisory Report on Stock Status'.
