The fisheries in the Faroe area (ICES Area Vb) can be typified as multigear and multi species, targeting demersal, deep-water and pelagic species. Cod (Gadus morhua), haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) and saithe (Pollachius virens) form the three most important demersal species and the focus of our work. In this study we use the Ecopath with Ecosim routine (EwE), based on a previously constructed Ecopath model and on historical patterns of fishing mortality, catch and relative abundance of several fish species derived from single-species stock assessments to explore management options using the Ecosim routine. Ten years forward projections under different conditions on harvest rates and fleet effort constraints either exploratory or representing an intended fisheries management plan or proposal are examined.
