The spatial distribution characteristics of fishing species in relation to trawl catchability as an important component in stock assessment and management ...

No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. The current practice of trawl and acoustic surveys is based on the assumption of using gear constant catchability. This assumption is not true neither pelagic nor bottom trawls. Spatial heterogeneity of the target species distributio...

This assumption is not true neither pelagic nor bottom trawls. Spatial heterogeneity of the target species distribution characteristics stipulates a considerable haul-to-haul variability of the trawl catchability in the survey area. The effect of trawl catchability variability on the research survey results are considered by the example of krill and icefish surveys. The comparative analysis of catchability of different trawl types used in the said surveys is presented. Comparative analyses of commercial trawl catchability in relation to krill are also shown. In this study the trawl catchability was estimated with the acoustic method and applying analytic models. ...
