Attention is paid to the hydro- graphic conditions in the warm water from the south (Inninger Current) which developed at the end of the 1990s into high saline conditions comparable with the period prior to the 1960s. This includes the northern component flowing into North Icelandic waters. The conditions in the East Icelandic Current also improved at the end of the 1990s with relatively high salinities. Thus the hydrobiological conditions in Icelandic waters were favourable at the end of the 1990s with regard to the various fish stocks.
