From Stock definition : The two species of anglerfish (the white, Lophius piscatorius , and the black, L. budegassa ) are North-eastern Atlantic species, however black anglerfish has a more southerly distribution. White anglerfish is distributed from Norway (Barents Sea) to the Straits of Gibraltar (and including the Mediterranean and the Black Sea) and black anglerfish from the British Isles to Senegal (including the Mediterranean and the Black Sea). Anglerfish occur in a wide range of depths, from shallow waters to at least 1000 m. Information about spawning areas and seasonality is scarce, therefore the stock structure remains unclear. This lack of information is due to their particular spawning behaviour. Anglerfish eggs and larvae are rarely caught in scientific surveys. Version 2 created to add DOI and edit metadata.
