The monthly occurrence rates of thin ice and active frazil are calculated by using daily thin ice type retrieved from AMSR-E microwave data. The estimation of ice production is based on a heat flux calculation that uses ERA5 reanalysis product and AMSR-E ice thickness improved by taking account of the ice type. The calculation period of the occurrence rates includes the sea ice melt season, in which the accuracy of thin ice detection is considerably reduced. When ...
