Description
Summary:Indicators based on plankton functional groups, or lifeforms, can be used to reveal plankton community responses to factors such as nutrient loading from humans and climate-driven change. Changes in the relative abundance between ecologically-relevant lifeform pairs can indicate changes to key aspects of ecosystem functioning, for example, links between the water column and sea floor, ecosystem energy flows and pathways, and food web interactions. This database was created for the UK and OSPAR MSFD assessments and consists of plankton species, trait, and lifeform data for multiple Northeast Atlantic datasets. It is a living database and will evolve as more datasets, and species, are added.
