Passive surface drifter data in the bay of Sept-Îles in 2003 ...

Lagrangian drift data were gathered by Denis Lefaivre in the Bay of Sept-Îles in 2003 as part of work for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada (DFO). The drifters were deployed from the small DFO boat Barachois, and consisted of 2 m long by 10.16 cm wide PVC tubes. These were weighted on o...

The longitude, latitudes and time were automatically recorded and were processed to obtain the following parameters: * longitude (degrees east) * latitude (degrees north) * datenum UTC (days since January 0, 0000) * velocity east (meters / second) * velocity north (meters / second) * velocity magnitude (meters / second) * velocity direction (compass degrees) * time after high tide (hours) * water depth (meters) * time UTCSee the referred publication for information on data sets used to obtain these values. These drifters were built from a 2 meter long PVC tube with the GPS beacon on one end, and weight at the other. The PVC tube was 4 inches in diameter. It was weighted such that 20 cm of the tube extended out of the water. A ring 9 inches indiameter was fixed 20 cm from the beacon end of the tube. These drifters were estimated to be affected by currents in the ...
