Kirkness, Director of the First Nations House of Learning, agreed to he a keynote speaker for the Mokakit Education Research Conference, "Giving Voice to Our Ancestors," held at the University of British Columbia, September 29 to October 2,1992. Her talk was taped, transcribed, then edited. The text presented here reflects timeless teachings of the Ancestors honored in various ways by people today.
