Work made his headquarters at Fort Simpson and traded from Alaska to the north end of Vancouver Island. "This journal is an unusually informative record of maritime fur-trading undertaken by the Hudson's Bay Company. It tells of the competition between the American fur traders and the servants of the Company and the liquor traffic amongst the Indians which resulted.
