Description
Summary:This dataset was used in the study "Darknet Dimensions: a detailed insight into the drug trade across Russian Regions in 2020-2021". Data parsed and downloaded from the Hydra Darknet narcotics marketplace were facilitated using an original Python 3.2 script. The data set encompassed 3045 individual sellers marketing 6721 unique products via 58563 distinct postings, each representing specific quantities sold in distinct Russian regions. The data structure was strengthened through a detailed investigation of a randomly selected day of data collection - 30th August 2019. Additionally, we have collected 31 variables from official published sources (Ministry of Health, Police reports, etc.) to make comparisons and to check how relative these indicators are to Darknet Market Hydra data about amounts and types of selling drugs in every 85 Russian regions (oblast). The data was obtained from official sources (statistical materials). Some findings:The study discovered a substantial correlation between heroin availability, fatal overdoses, and HIV. A more comprehensive selection of cannabis products in Russia was associated with fewer opioid overdoses and other detrimental consequences. Injecting drug users had a higher HIV prevalence in densely populated locations. Marijuana is the most often used illicit substance worldwide. It makes up 20–30% of the usual drug dose in most places, which matches global trends as cannabis is the most widely used illicit narcotic. Opioid usage is widespread in several locations, as 22.50 grams per 100,000 persons use opioids in Krasnodar. Drug usage is higher in densely populated cities like Leningrad Oblast, Saint Peterburg, and Moscow. We found all types of drugs for sale in Russia's Chechen Republic and other Islamic republics. Easy access, more significant populations, or differing socioeconomic situations may explain this. Opiates are primarily distributed across Europe and the south of Russia. Region-specific variables may impact drug usage in regions such as the Republic of Karelia ...
