Summary: | In this feature, we offer a feminist critique of Orca Book Publishers’ Orca Soundings series, a Canadian collection of short novels aimed at reluctant teen readers. Although the series is a valuable resource for this demographic, we have found some titles to be very troubling from a feminist perspective. In our analysis of several novels, we pinpoint feminist concerns by evaluating themes, character development, plot elements, and pacing. |
