Summary:In Canadian lowland wetland tundra, there are significant hilly geomorphological features called pingos. These are slowly formed over thousands of years, so the long–term succession series of ecosystems can be studied there. The author describes the vegetation structure, soil types and soil fauna, particularly springtails (Collembola), on a pingo 2,500–3,500 years old.
