Description
Summary:Priyadarshini Lake of Schirmacher Oasis, the Antarctica was studied on basis of sediment cores. The analyses of photosyntetic pigments, mineral nutrients composition and content of organic matter together with microfossils diversity and abundance were performed. Microfosils analyses showed that Cosmarium spp. Predominated in all three core samples. The organic content of sediment is based mainly on content of algal cysts. The overall palynological assemblages seems to be a local-biota grown in a lake environment of isolated nature. The dominance of algal cysts suggests a bloom of algae phytoplankton which occurred during warm period of past climate period.
