Summary: | The phenomenon of emotional intelligence (EI) is nowadays related to different theoretical backgrounds as well as to more conceptual ambiguities. Generally, the research of EI includes 2 directions, which differentiate by emphasizing either the cognitive skills of person or individual's personality traits. Studies conducted on EI show any complete consistency in understanding of this concept, but partial overlapping of EI with social intelligence (SI) is evident. In this study we are focusing on the investigation of relationships between EI (trait perspective) and SI. This intention is examined in the sample of early adolescents with weakened health conditions, physically disabled and healthy individuals. For the mentioned purpose, we applied following questionnaires: Trait EI Questionnaire and Tromso Social Intelligence Scale. The results confirmed the assumed distinctiveness of EI constructs, the significant relationship of trait EI with SI as well as variability depending on the health state of adolescents and gender differences of emotional and social intelligence in both samples of students.
