Description
Summary:The article is about the preliminary results of the excavations in 2010 of the new cultural horizon 3 of archaeological site Kovrizhka III on Vitim River (Irkutskaia oblast’, Baikalo-Patom’s plateau). According to radiocarbon dates, it’s already known that earliest cultural horizon 3 at Kovrizhka III is about 11,400 1 4C BP. One of the most characteristic artifacts of this assemblage is the bifaces. They are different from each other: preform for the core, axe, multi-functional tool, sidescraper. Other specific implements are the microcores. They demonstrate themselves wedge-shaped terminal and prismatic forms and as the above cultural horizon 2 express the earliest evidences of the appearance of prismatic microblade splitting technology. The cultural horizon 3 is formally characterized as an Upper Paleolithic Duktai-like assemblage but with such feature as microprismatic splitting usually addressed in Yakutia to later Sumnagin culture.
