The article is devoted to the history and main results of the field research in remote Berezovka settlement of Sredenekolymsk rayon in Yakutia inhabited by indigenous peoples of the North. The research was conducted in the late 1990s in the framework of the four-year project “Indigenous Land Tenure and Self-Administration in the Sakha Republic, Russian Federation” by the team of foreign and Russian scientists.
