Candidate of Historical Sciences Bair Dugarov in his article “On the Semantics of one Epic Nickname” means the nickname of an epic hero Nashan — “falcon” — “gyrfalcon”. The author makes a reservation that a Russian translation does not reproduce all nuances of the meaning of this word. Such nicknames that characterize ones or the other heroes are met in many epic Buriat works, and also in the works of the neighboring Turko-Mongol peoples.
