Description
Summary:Using the methods of gas-liquid chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, saturated biomarker hydrocarbons have been examined in 129 bitumen extracts from Jurassic deposits of the Yenisey-Khatanga trough. Bitumen extracts are divided into three groups. This subdivision is the most evident from the distribution of homologs of sterane hydrocarbons. In the first group which included the majority of samples, sterane homologs are sharply dominated by ethylcholestanes, suggesting that the lipids of initial organic matter (OM) are of terragene nature (type III). In the second group with predominantly aquagene type of OM, which includes bitumen extracts from the Sig, Malyshevka, Yanovstan, and Golchikhin Formations, the content of С27, С28, С29 steranes is nearly equal (type II). Bitumen extracts of the third group, which occupy an intermediate position, are of mixed genesis (types II-III). The performed investigations allow us to state that deposits of the Yanovstan, Golchikhin Formations and, probably, the Malyshevka Formation which contain the layers enriched in aquagene and mixed OM (type II) have generated oils. Thus, in the northeastern West Siberian basin, as in its central areas, carbonaceous clayey-siliceous rocks of the Bazhenov Formation (Tithonian) and its age equivalents were the major oil generators.
