| Summary: | El artículo amplía y aclara la distribución del binómio Lyconus brachycolus, considerado como especie rara, solamente referenciada para el Atlántico norte,con una adscripción taxonómica y sinonímia dudosa See article (pdf) Lyconus brachycolus Holt & Byrne, 1906 is considered a rare species only referenced until now in the North Atlantic Ocean. Its systematic position is litigious and its relationship with other binomial is not clear. The work deals with these matters, comparing the literature with material lent by the Museu Municipal do Funchal and two specimens caught in the South Eastern Atlantic (Namibian coast). These are the first record of L. obrachycolus in the southern hemisphere.
