Another general objective of the campaign consists in the paleoceanographic study of the sediments deposited in the eastern and western Atlantic continental margins in areas near the equatorial zone during the last 400,000 years, and to deduce the evolution of the water masses of Antarctic origin, its distribution and most recent evolution, and the effects on ocean circulation resulting from the oscillations of the Antarctic ice caps.
