As an example, the ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) has caused massive mortalities in oysters (Crassostrea gigas) in different parts of the world. However, until now, high mortalities have never been reported in the field for Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis).
