Estimation of Arctic sea ice concentration using SMOS measurements

3 pages, 3 figures This work presents a novel method to determine Arctic Sea ice concentration with radiometric measurements obtained by ESA SMOS satellite, that was launched on 2009. This satellite carries a passive radiometer working at low microwave frequency, 1.4GHz (L-band), which presents some...

This satellite carries a passive radiometer working at low microwave frequency, 1.4GHz (L-band), which presents some advantages with respect higher frequency radiometers. A Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) is used to retrieve sea ice concentration. Results have been compared with sea ice concentration from OSISAF dataset, which is based on state-of-the-art algorithms and higher frequency radiometric data This study has been funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy through the National R+D Plan by means of Promises project ESP2015-67549-C3 and previous grants Peer Reviewed Other/Unknown Material Arctic Sea ice Digital.CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) Arctic
